TMTP – Day 12

The following post is Day 12 of 18, in the series Take Me To A Place – in 18 Days:

I have become aware of a popular saying or thought. It is, “Just do you.” This means to “be yourself” and to not try to be anyone else. We do best at being ourselves. When we try to be someone other than who we are, we become fake and counterfeit people.

To be authentic in who we are is something we do not appreciate as much as we should. To be genuine and honest is great. However, it can be challenging for all of us at times to feel pressure around people we don’t really know. Put simply, who doesn’t wonder from time to time if we will be accepted when we are “just being ourselves?”

In Christ, we can be who we are. He knows us anyway (Psalm 139:1). We cannot hide. He accepts us fully for who we are with all of our failures, shortcomings and undesirable characteristics. Just like others can criticize us when we don’t do things their way, we look down on others simply for being different from us. We all need to accept each other for who we are. We are not alike.

Jesus loves us unconditionally and lets us be who we are. He created us all to be unique. This is not to say that Jesus approves of our shortcomings. He loves us in spite of them and will lovingly correct us, but we do not have to hide ourselves from Him (Romans 5:8). When in His Presence, He knows the beautiful and the ugly truth about us (Psalm 94:11).

I Thank God that who I am is ultimately just between Jesus and me—You and me, dear God—and no one else! I can be myself.
