What I Was Looking For: Introduction

Posted on 12.02.2011

For the next few weeks, I’m planning to share a few thoughts about my journey to find “what I have been looking for.” Since my teen years, I have found this verse from Hebrews 11:6 quite intriguing:

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

Every day I awake, I look for what he has promised to me as a believer in Jesus Christ—for those simple treasures that money cannot buy. The fact is that we all, as human creatures, look for it. The problems come when we seek these treasures by looking for the wrong things or the right things in the wrong places! We will discuss this over the next few weeks.

Who am I? I am a follower of Christ. I am a wife of twenty-three years. I am a Mom of two young women, nineteen and fifteen. I am a daughter, an aunt and a friend. I am a physician—an obstetrician/gynecologist. I treat women and I take care of pregnant women. I deliver their babies and gladly hand the babies off to the pediatrician when they come out. One lady says that I see women from a different perspective— a very vulnerable and very private perspective.

I am a singer. I write songs and write music. It feels more like the songs and the music grow inside of me and when they are ready I let them come out. I often am not always sure they are good songs or cool music. They are just my real expressions about my experience with God. Some say I am a preacher like my Dad was because I enjoy talking about Jesus, the Bible—His love letter to humans—and it touches me so deeply that I want to share it. Yes, I even shed tears at times when I talk about Him. All my life, I have been looking for something. I am convinced that I find it everyday.

For, God rewards me as I diligently seek Him. My diligence is daily and daily I find every true treasure I seek and every treasure that I need. Next week, I will share more about what I was looking for and I hope you will find it like I have.
