Walking Into 2014

Posted on 01.15.2014

Two Saturdays ago, my husband and I went to have coffee and to spend time together. During our date, I shared with him what I believe the Holy Spirit has laid on me for my walk in 2014. The theme for 2014 came to me during my regular morning Bible reading. Although I have read this passage every year for the past fourteen years, this day it seemed to have been amplified with a 500-pound megaphone! Since then, I have wanted to share this scripture with others. This message can be embraced by all disciples of Christ:

2 Peter 1:3-11

“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge, and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.”

Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

I am inviting friends, family, and acquaintances, to join this quest! I am reminded of the verse: “Let us spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not stop meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more, as we see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

If you feel prompted to walk together with me in this, take these words and meditate on them. Study them. Most importantly, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what this scripture means for your walk with Him. Each month, I will talk about it. We can have an ongoing dialogue as we share our experiences  this year!

As I sat quietly with God last week, He impressed on me that in 2014, we would experience new things (Isaiah 43:19)! We are God’s plan, just as Jesus is His plan to bring salvation to the world. Jesus left us here to continue the work He started (Matthew 28:18-20). 2 Peter 1:3-11 is the fuel and energy for carrying out God’s plan of Love for men and women of every tribe and nation, right where we live! In it we are fulfilling our calling.
